What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. On a return visit the site can read it back, which is how a site remembers a preference or keeps you signed in. Similar technologies, such as local storage, do the same job in a slightly different way, and this policy covers those too.

Who this policy covers

Celiksoylaw.com presents the services of two separate law firms: Bekenbey Solicitors Ltd, which provides United Kingdom legal services, and Celiksoy Law Firm PC, which provides United States legal services. The website itself is operated jointly by the two firms, and this policy covers the cookies and similar technologies used on it. How each firm handles the personal information you send it is explained in the UK Privacy Policy and the US Privacy Policy.

Our approach

We have kept this deliberately narrow. This website runs no advertising pixels and no tracking across other sites. We do not build profiles of visitors, and we do not sell or share information about how you use the site.

What remains is the small number of cookies the site needs in order to work, plus two things you can switch on if you want them: the video player on our success story pages, and basic measurement of how the site is used. Both are off until you turn them on.

The cookies this site uses

CookieWhat it doesHow long it lasts
cl_consentRecords the choice you made when the cookie notice appeared, so that we do not ask you again on every page12 months
theme-modeRemembers the display preference you selected, so that pages open the way you last left themUp to 12 months
wordpress_logged_in and wp-settingsSet only for people who sign in to administer the site. They are never set for ordinary visitorsSession, or up to 12 months for editor preferences

Our web server also keeps a routine log of page requests, including the IP address and the time. That log is not a cookie, it is not linked to anything you do elsewhere, and it is used only to keep the site running and secure.

Content loaded from other websites

A few parts of the site are served from other companies. Each of them sees the IP address your browser connects from, because that is how the connection is made.

Video on our success story pages

The client videos are hosted on YouTube, which is operated by Google. We load them from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain, and we do not load the player at all until you choose to play a video or tell us that media content is welcome. Until you do, no YouTube cookie is set. Once a video loads, Google may set cookies on your device under its own terms.

Fonts and images

Typefaces are served by Google Fonts, and a small number of images, including the flag icons in the header, are served from content delivery networks. These do not set cookies of their own, but the request is visible to the provider.

Measurement

The cookie notice includes a Measurement option. It is off unless you turn it on, and while it is off no measurement script runs and no measurement cookie is stored on your device.

If you do turn it on, we use it for one thing: counting visits and seeing which pages people actually read, so that we can make them better. We do not use it for advertising, we do not build profiles, and we do not share the data with advertisers. Measurement is provided by Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies under Google’s terms once you allow it.

You can turn it off again at any time using the cookie link in the footer. Doing so stops any further measurement cookies being set; cookies already on your device can be removed through your browser.

Changing your choices

The notice that appears on your first visit lets you accept everything, decline everything, or open the settings and decide category by category. There are three: Strictly necessary, which cannot be switched off; Embedded video; and Measurement. Whatever you choose is recorded in the cl_consent cookie, together with the date you chose it, and you can change your mind at any time using the cookie link in the footer.

Declining does not limit anything you can read on the site. The only visible difference is that an embedded video will not load by itself, and you can still start it yourself with a single click.

Controlling cookies in your browser

Every modern browser lets you see what has been stored, delete it, and block cookies for particular sites. The controls sit under Settings, usually under Privacy. Blocking cookies entirely will stop this site remembering your cookie choice, which means the notice will appear again each time you visit.

Changes to this policy

If we add anything to the site that sets a cookie, we will update this page before it goes live, and the notice will ask you again where your earlier choice no longer covers it. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised.
